I Will Never Not Eat a Tomato

Author & Illustrator: Lauren Child

In this ever important time, we must eat healthy: fruits, vegetables, and a balanced diet. However, are your kid not big fans of these delicacies? I Will Never Not Eat a Tomato by Lauren Child might just be the inspiration for your kids to start loving healthy living.

Lola didn’t like tomatoes, mash potatoes, all those green ‘things’ that adults constantly tried to force down her throat. Until one day, when her brother -Charlie- was put in charge of babysitting her that her habits completely changed.

As per usual, Charlie gave her a platter of her least favorite greens. But instead of telling Lola their true identity, Charlie told her a little story. The carrots were twigs sent all the way from the fantastical land of Jupiter; the peas were little droplets of rain that fell from Greenland; the potatoes cloud fluff from Mount Fuji. Lola ate all of it, thinking to herself softly, these dishes were indeed quite delicious. Charlie knew he succeeded, but he didn’t realize how much he had done so until Lola asked him a question unheard before. She asked for the tomatoes- something she vowed never to eat, “You didn’t think they were tomatoes, did you?”

Sometimes all kids need is a little push, a little imagination, and a little fun in the mundane things of everyday life. This book is the perfect way to incorporate something special, something new in your everyday meals, and perhaps before we know it, our kids will start loving their vegetables too!
